Cranes Equals Roofs

So I was a bit slow on the crane post, but as a bonus, now we have a roof! This is looking a lot like the final vision now, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Just before they put the porch up.
Just after they put the porch up!

And how did all of this amazing stuff happen? A crane!

I know we’re going backwards in time here, but it was pretty wild seeing the crane here to put up all of the trusses. This was a well-oiled machine of an operation, with each section of trusses going up in less than 30 minutes.

They (unsurprisingly, I guess) also used the crane to bring the pallets of sheathing up to the second floor. More power!

They would start by putting the “end cap” on each section – this is the back right side, with the wall of windows for our great room – and then add and secure each truss one-by-one till they got to the other end.

And each of the trusses had to go in a very specific area: there were vaulted trusses (shown above) for our bedroom’s vaulted ceiling, and other trusses (shown below) that would give us a lot of attic storage space.

The boxed in area will be a roughed in attic storage area that’s ~10×25; plenty of room for halloween and christmas decorations.

With the trusses all done, they next started on the porch:

This is one of the areas of the house I’m most excited about, and plan on spending a lot of time out here. If you haven’t been to our place, the porch looks out over a field and some woods, and its a very nice peaceful spot. If you need me, you’ll find me here.

The porch roof “finishes” the facade of the house, and now you can really see what the finished product will look like! So exciting!
